Robert & Mary | Hallmark Christmas Movie Proposal at Central Park Ice Skate Loop Maple Grove

Robert & Mary | Hallmark Christmas Movie Proposal.

One of my goals in 2019 is to be more active in creating blog posts- so here is my first one! I hope you enjoy it.

If you’re like me, one of your favorite things during the Christmas season is to watch the Hallmark channel and watch all the cheesy Christmas movies. I love them. My favorite one of all time is the Christmas Card… if you haven’t seen it yet you have to watch it sometime.

Last Saturday, Feb 2nd, I was driving to an engagement session in Minneapolis and got a phone call from one of my best friends who was freaking out because her brother was planning on proposing that night. I was so happy and of course being a photographer wanted to know how and where he was going to be proposing. I had this feeling in my stomach that I should go and capture some photos for them. I have always wanted to capture photos during or right after a proposal.

It was a God moment. Have you ever had one of those moments in your life? A moment where you know God was planning everything out for a reason and making it perfectly clear that you’re supposed to be a part of something. Well that is exactly what happened. Melissa told me that her brother was going to be proposing at a skating rink in Maple Grove. I would of course be driving through Maple Grove on my way home so I asked what time he was planning on proposing and got all the details that Melissa knew… which were not very many because proposals are a crazy thing where all your plans can go really well or end up really bad.

Robert invited some of his friends and also his family plus Mary’s family as well to the Central Park Ice Skate Loop in Maple Grove around 6 pm. I had just finished my engagement session in Minneapolis and arrived at the rink around 5:45 pm. Melissa and I both agreed that we didn’t want to tell Robert that I was coming because I did not want to wreck the special moment that he had planned.

I waited in my car while Robert and Mary’s friends and family arrived to skate with them. An hour and 15 mins past and I finally received a text from Melissa that said Robert proposed and I could come out to the rink after she told Robert that I was in town and would be able to snap a few photos for them.

It was so SURREAL. I felt like I was in an actual Hallmark Christmas movie. The skating rink was just so magical and it was the perfect evening… almost 30 degrees which we all know in MN is so nice.

I never met Mary before so it was so awesome to meet her and her family. They are just the nicest family ever. It was so fun to congratulate them and snap just a few photos of them on the rink that will forever be a special place to them now. It was so awesome that Robert and Mary could have some of their friends and family there to celebrate one of the biggest moments of their life.

Being a part of moments like this is so special. I know the images that I was able to take mean the world to them and will be memories that they can have for the rest of their life. Mary and Robert are the most respectful, loving, and most importantly, faith-filled people ever. It truly is amazing to see a relationship that is centered around faith.

God knew that he wanted me there and I am so happy that I received that crazy phone call from my best friend freaking out that her brother would be proposing. It’s moments like these where I feel incredibly blessed for the little things I get to capture because someday they will be the biggest things in life to look back on. Like all Hallmark Christmas Movies, they end in someone falling in love. Robert and Mary are now ENGAGED and I couldn’t be more happy about the love they have for each other. It was truly a picture perfect moment.
